From February 24 to March 30, 2025, the Prior General, Father Alejandro Moral, was accompanied by the General Assistant for Africa, Father Edward Daleng, during his most recent canonical visit to the Province of Saint Augustine in Nigeria.

During the 35-day stay in the African country, both Father Alejandro and Father Daleng had the opportunity to spend time with the friars, gaining insight into their reality and “fostering a spirit of communion and fraternal exchange,” as acknowledged by Father Anthony Ikechukwu Kanu, Provincial Prior of Nigeria.
Masses, local celebrations, engaging with the laity, evaluating apostolic activities, and observing the friars’ daily life were among the main goals of the visit, which provided a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and achievements of a Province that continues to grow steadily.
The canonical visit concluded with a meeting with the Provincial Council of Nigeria on March 31, 2025. This gathering, serving as the culmination of an extended stay, allowed the Augustinians to discuss important matters concerning the Province and the Order, and to outline future plans and strategies.

“The visit of the Prior General and his assistant will remain a meaningful moment in the lives of all of us,” said Father Kanu. “We have truly taken to heart the message the General Prior conveyed to us, emphasizing how essential it is for friars to support one another in our ministry, committing ourselves to strengthen our bonds both within and beyond our Province. His presence, sensitivity, and encouraging words have deepened our unity and solidarity, and have reinvigorated our commitment to the mission entrusted to us.”
Finally, the Provincial Prior of Nigeria expressed, in a message addressed to the entire Order, “our heartfelt gratitude to the Prior and the General Assistant for Africa for dedicating time to us and engaging in dialogue with us.” “We take this opportunity to unanimously renew our commitment to continue working together to promote the charism and mission of the Order of Saint Augustine in Nigeria.”
