Pope Leo XIV celebrates his Birthday and a special Anniversary

Rev. Joseph Farrell, OSA, Prior General, sent birthday greetings to the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, on the happy occasion of his 71st birthday on September 14, the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross. In addition, the Prior General added that the Augustinian Family recalls this date with great fondness and gratitude for it was on September 14, 2021, twenty-five years ago, that Fr . Robert Prevost, OSA, a delegate to the General Chapter as the Provincial of the Province of Chicago, was elected to serve as Prior General of the Order (2001-2013).

Fr. Prevost was elected just three days after the devastating events of September 11, and he led the friars at the General Chapter in praying for peace and in committing their lives to work for justice. Now, twenty-five years later, as Pontiff, he leads the world community in that same call to work for peace and harmony in a divided, warring world.
We join our Augustinian brother, Pope Leo XIV, in his commitment to peace, justice, and community, and we thank him for his life and his service to the Order of Saint Augustine, to the Church, and to the world.
Ad multos annos, Pope Leo!
