​Union of Augustinian Friars of Africa (UAFA)

The Union of Augustinian Friars of Africa (UAFA) is the regional communion of Augustinian circumscriptions in Africa, established to strengthen collaboration, unity, and shared mission across the continent. Inspired by the Constitutions of the Order of Saint Augustine and formally supported by the 2001 Ordinary General Chapter, UAFA reflects the Order’s commitment to foster closer bonds among communities that share common geographical, cultural, and pastoral realities.

Rooted in Africa—the land where Saint Augustine founded his first religious communities—UAFA was officially erected on 22 September 2011 by decree of the Prior General, following a process of discernment and consultation among African circumscriptions. It brings together Provinces, Vicariates, Delegations, and Augustinian communities across the continent in a shared effort to proclaim the Gospel, respond to the signs of the times, and contribute the richness of the Augustinian spiritual tradition to the evangelization of Africa.

Through regular assemblies, collaborative initiatives, and structured commissions dedicated to formation, spirituality, education, justice and peace, and finance, UAFA promotes Augustinian cohesion beyond juridical boundaries while respecting the autonomy of each circumscription.
