Archives of the Augustinian General Curia
The Archives of the Augustinian General Curia (AGA) is the central repository of the documentary heritage produced over the centuries by the governing bodies of the Order of Saint Augustine. While it does not encompass all the records of the Order—each province and convent maintains its own archives—the AGA preserves a rich collection of historical documents that reflect the governance and life of the Order from its earliest centuries.
Originating in the “Mother House” of the Augustinians in Rome, the archives have been systematically organized since the 18th century by figures such as Tomaso Bonasoli and Tomaso Verani. Despite historical and political challenges that led to some dispersion of its materials, the AGA today safeguards documents dating back to the late 12th century. These collections, preserved in diverse formats, are invaluable both for their historical and cultural significance and as a living memory of the Order, open to friars and qualified researchers seeking to explore the history of the Augustinians.
