Augustinan Formation Process
Discernment
The process of Augustinian formation begins with vocation discernment, where a vocation director accompanies an applicant to explore their call through spiritual accompaniment and community visits. This stage involves a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate's personal background, spiritual journey, and "healthy sense of restlessness" to determine suitability for the Order.

Aspirancy
Aspirancy focuses on caring for the "seeds of a vocation" and preparing the individual for community life. During this time, the student receives intellectual and academic training aimed at achieving a healthy emotional and spiritual equilibrium. Personal guidance is paramount at this stage to support the aspirant's human and psycho-spiritual development.

Pre-novitiate
The Pre-Novitiate is typically a residential program that gradually familiarizes the candidate with Augustinian community life while allowing the community to know the candidate. It emphasizes self-knowledge and the knowledge of God, helping the candidate develop a practical approach to interiority, openness, and dialogue. Evaluation during this stage focuses on human formation, community integration, and the candidate's attitude of generosity toward their brothers.

Novitiate
The Novitiate is considered a "privileged moment" where the novice dedicates unhurried time to prayer, fraternity, and the practice of the vows. The goal is a personal discovery of Christ as the interior Master through true conversion and the following of Christ. Novices are instructed in the history and spirit of the Order, the sacred liturgy, and the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

Solemn Profession
Solemn profession is the unconditional commitment to God, the Church, the Order, and the people of our time. It represents the "full and final incorporation into Augustinian religious life. Complete and definitive incorporation into the Order is achieved through solemn profession. To reach this stage, a friar must be at least twenty-three years old and have spent the required time in temporary vows. For those destined for the priesthood, this stage cannot be completed until their theological studies are finished.

Simple Profession
The stage of Simple Profession begins after the novitiate and involves a more intimate participation in the sharing of faith, life, and work within the community. Brothers engage in systematic studies of philosophy, theology, and human sciences while undertaking gradual pastoral experiences. This period serves as a time of growth and discernment leading toward the unconditional commitment of solemn profession.Suitable candidates are admitted to the profession of temporary vows, which are renewed annually. This period lasts for a minimum of three years and a maximum of six (extendable to nine in special cases).
