The contemplative sisters of the Spanish federations of Our Lady of the Pillar and St. Thomas of Villanova participated in an ongoing formation program in Cascia, Italy from July 7 to 17.

The Prior General accompanied the Sisters for two days. He wanted to be close to our sisters in the order “to speak with them and to understand their concerns”, as Father Alejandro himself affirmed.

The conferences were given by Mother Natividad, President of the Federation of Our Lady of the Pillar, and Mother Prado, President of the Federation of the Sisters of the Conversion, who, together with the President of the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum, Father Juan Antonio Cabrera, offered a series of sessions that enabled the nuns to delve into the theology of Saint Augustine.

Augustine’s controversy with Pelagius, Julian of Eclanum, Original Sin, and the limits of Grace were among the topics addressed during these intensive days of formation and fraternity.

“It was a very good experience,” Father Cabrera shared. “It was enriching to be able to reflect and engage in dialogue together, despite the difficulty of some of the issues. It is truly remarkable that contemplative sisters should choose to leave their monasteries and come to Cascia, not only to deepen their mutual bonds but also to address both the central theme of these conferences—Grace—and other essential aspects of Augustine’s thought.”
