The Holy See as announced that Pope Leo XIV, a son of St. Augustine, will visit Pavia on June 20, as part of his scheduled trips to Italian cities during 2026. The Holy Father is certainly not a stranger in Pavia, having visited the relics of Augustine countless times during his lifetime as a friar and his years of service as the Augustinian Prior General.

On behalf of the people of his diocese, Bishop Corrado Sanguineti thanked the Holy Father and assured him that the people of Pavia await his visit “with grateful and happy hearts…in the city that has the gift of preserving the presence and living memory of the great father Saint Augustine.”
