Augustinians of Mallorca receive the Medal of Honor of the city

This was in recognition of the work of conservation and restoration that, for two decades, the community has been carrying out on the historical and artistic heritage of the Church of Socorro in Palma de Mallorca.

Among the most outstanding works are the restoration of the main door of the church, the altarpiece of the Coronation of the Virgin (XVIII century), the altarpiece and image of St Rita of Cascia (XVIII century) and the image of Our Lady of Hope (XV-XVIII centuries). The images of the Most Holy Christ of the Potters or of the Trinity (XVII century), of the Christ of the Choir (XVIII century), of the recumbent Christ (XVIII century), and other outstanding works from the inheritance we have received from our forebears have also been restored.

Fr José Luis Ovejero, prior of the community, received the Medal from the Mayor of the city, Mr Jaime Martínez Llabrés at a presentation in the Council Chamber. Other members of the community were also present at the ceremony.

Other awards

In addition, it is worth mentioning that this accolade joins the two previous Gold Medals from the City Council and the Consell de Mallorca, awarded to the Colegio San Agustín in 2017. These were in recognition of the contributions made over 125 years  in the education and formation of generations of children and young people of Palma.

The Augustinian community gratefully received this recognition, viewing it as an invitation to continue cherishing the precious heritage received from their forebears and for which they are custodians, for the benefit of their beloved city of Palma.
