Father Ian Wilson presides over the ordinary chapter of England-Scotland with the renewal of the provincial statutes on the table

Updated: Jun 12

During the first days of May, the Ordinary Provincial Chapter of the Province of England-Scotland was held at the Kairos Center in Roehampton (London).

All the friars of the Province attended the assembly, except for Fr. Mark Minihane, who was unable to participate due to health reasons.

During the Eucharist on the first day, Fr. Gladson Francis Dabre, OSA, who succeeds Fr. Robert Marsh in governing the Province, made his profession of faith and received the seal of his office as the new Prior Provincial. The rite was presided over by Fr. Ian Wilson, OSA, Assistant General for Northern Europe.

“These have been wonderful days—sunny, with great weather—where all the friars have contributed to creating an atmosphere of prayer,” noted Fr. Ian.

Economic Centralization and Other Key Topics

Among the main topics discussed were the possible merger with the Province of Ireland—whose economist, Fr. Stephen Shields, was present to share his roadmap—the proposal to establish a centralized economic system for the entire Province, the organization of the friars’ retreat and rest periods, as well as the urgent need to update the Provincial Statutes.

New Provincial Government

As a result of the Chapter, the new leadership team was appointed:

  • Fr. Gladson F. Dabre, OSA: Provincial Superior

  • Fr. Tomas Banayag OSA First Counselor, and Provincial Bursar

  • Fr. Gabriel Hassan, OSA: Provincial Secretary

  • Counselors: Fr. George Donaghy OSA and Fr. Bernard Rolls OSA

The new Statutes will be presented at the next Intermediate Chapter, which will take place from April 5 to 9, 2027.
