The 7th Augustinian Youth Day, organised by the Province of Our Lady of Consolation of Brazil, reflected, lived and highlighted the beauty of friendship.
Around 200 young people from different Brazilian cities participated in the Augustinian Youth Day (JAJ), held in Rio de Janeiro from 30th May to 2nd June, the feast of Corpus Christi. It was themed "Friendship is everything" and "We are known by friendship" (Cf. St Augustine, Eighty-three different questions, 71, 5).
Organised by the Secretariat of Vocational and Youth Animation, the JAJ is one of the primary events of the Augustinian Province of Our Lady of Consolation of Brazil aimed at youth. Part of the programme of events was held at the Parish of Our Lady of Consolation and Correa, located in the Engenho Novo neighbourhood. The rest took place at Our Lady of Grace Parish and the social school AIACOM College, both in the Marechal Hermes neighbourhood.
With moments for prayer, celebration, spirituality, workshops and lectures, the event was designed to encourage reflection and awaken participants to the value and beauty of friendship, promoting and strengthening interpersonal bonds, and sharing life in unity of hearts, through Augustinian Spirituality.
The young people in attendance came from the four Brazilian states where the Province is present (Ceará, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo), and represented our Augustinian educational hubs (units of Colegio San Agustín, Escuela Profesionalizante San Agustín, and Colegio AIACOM), as well as our parishes and houses of formation.
Notable attendees included a delegation from Colegio Santa Rita, from the Education Network of the Augustinian Missionary Sisters of Belo Horizonte/MG, who are part of the great Augustinian family present in Brazil, and also Friar Nestor Adrian OSA from the Vicariate of Venezuela, responsible for the Vocational and Youth Ministry of OALA (the Organization of Augustinians of Latin America and the Caribbean).
About JAJ
The Augustinian Youth Day (JAJ) was established in 2015 with the objective to evangelise youth, showing them the person and teaching of Jesus Christ, based on the testimony of Saint Augustine. JAJ offers moments of integration, spirituality, formation and mission, enabling the development of an Augustinian youth identity.
